Help & FAQ

Everything that gets asked most often. If your question isn’t here, get in touch; it may well end up on this page.

When will {List} be available?

There is no release date to announce yet. {List} is in active development and hasn’t been submitted to the App Store. When it’s ready, this site will be the first place it shows up.

How much will it cost?

Not finally decided. The intention is a free for ever app.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone, running iOS 17 or later, in portrait orientation. {List} is built specifically for the phone rather than stretched to fit everything.

Is there an iPad, Mac, Android, or web version?

No, and none is promised. {List} is an iPhone app today. Other platforms aren’t ruled out forever, but nothing is in progress. If that matters to you, say so; interest is how these decisions get made.

Does {List} work offline?

Completely. Everything is written to your iPhone first and the app never needs a connection to work — which is handy given how many supermarkets have no signal in the middle aisles. If you've signed in with Apple, it'll quietly sync to iCloud once you're back online, but that's a bonus on top, not a requirement.

Where is my data stored? Is it backed up?

Your lists, categories, items, history, and settings are always stored locally on your iPhone first, and your profile photo is saved in the app’s own private folder — the app works fully offline and never depends on a connection.

If you sign in with Apple, your lists, categories, items, profile, and settings also sync to your own private iCloud, which doubles as a backup and lets you pick up on another iPhone. Your history log and lifetime stats (like total items checked) stay local to each device and don’t sync. If you skip signing in, {List} doesn’t keep a copy for you: if you delete the app, its data goes with it. See the Privacy Policy for the details.

Will my lists sync between devices, or to iCloud?

Yes, if you want them to. Sign in with Apple from the Profile tab, and {List} syncs your lists, categories, items, profile, and settings to your own private iCloud automatically — on launch, when you return to the app, and with a manual “Sync Now” if you want it right away. Nobody but you can see this data; it goes to your own iCloud, not to us. Your activity history and lifetime stats stay per-device and don’t sync.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. {List} works fully without signing in to anything. Sign in with Apple is offered as an option if you want iCloud sync across your iPhones, plus a name and photo on your profile, and you can skip it entirely and use the app purely locally.

Which languages and currencies are supported?

The app is fully translated into English, Spanish, French, and German, and you can set the app’s language independently of your iPhone’s system language.

There are 15 built-in currencies, and prices are formatted the way your region writes them; the right symbol, in the right position, with the right decimal and thousands separators.

Can I share a list with my partner or flatmate?

Not today. {List} is a single-user app. There’s no sharing or collaboration, which is also why nothing you write is ever visible to anyone else. Shared lists are a common request, so it’s worth telling us if you want them.

Something’s broken, or I have an idea. What do I do?

For anything that looks like a bug, head to Support. For features and suggestions, go to Feedback. Both land in the same inbox, read by the person who builds the app.
